John Kruth is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, professor, and author. He has worked with greats including Violent Femmes, Allen Ginsberg, King Missile, Meat Puppets, Laurie Anderson, and many others. He is also a founding member of the genre-bending, critically acclaimed band TriBeCaStan. John is currently working with the ensemble Villa Delirium, which will be releasing a self-titled album on May 23. Along with his own music, he has written biographies on Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Townes Van Zandt, and most recently the great Roy Orbison. We’re excited to present this wonderful interview, as John shares his thoughts on the current music industry, his heroes, current musical projects, and his writing in general.
